Crunchfish launches XR Skeleton Stereo and interaction with two hands

2022-03-07|

Crunchfish is extremely proud to showcase a pre-release of the latest gesture solution – XR Skeleton Stereo – that enables high precision tracking and accuracy in all 3 dimensions due to the dual-camera input. The new solution also provides tracking of 42 points simultaneously (21 points on each hand) with high precision measurement of the distance between the camera sensors and each point of the hands.

As one of the first companies in the world, Crunchfish has launched a two-hand tracking solution based on dual camera configurations that often is used in AR/VR devices. With two wide-angle camera sensors, the augmented reality experience as well as the interaction space becomes fantastic. Compared to the previous released product – XR Skeleton – that is designed for a single camera configuration and one-hand interaction, the new – XR Skeleton Stereo – supports two-hand tracking with dual cameras and enables high precision measurement of the distance between the camera sensors and each point of the hands.

“Based on Crunchfish’s Skeleton platform, we have developed a solution that is extremely capable and fully meet the requirements on immersive interaction in consumer AR-glasses. I am very proud of the team-effort that made XR Skeleton Stereo possible”, says Joakim Nydemark, CEO of Crunchfish Gesture Interaction.

The areas of use for XR Skeleton Stereo are, among others, in AR/VR, to interact with virtual objects as shown in this concept video provided some time ago. It also provides new ways of tracking hands at a distance and controlling various screen functions and menus. By identifying all the moving parts and contours of the hand and then linking these points (coordinates) together into a skeletal structure, interaction with objects as in the real world becomes possible.

“With XR Skeleton Stereo, we have taken our Skeleton platform and hand tracking even closer to perfection and now enable two-hand tracking with millimeter precision using dual cameras. The development of XR Skeleton Stereo truly demonstrates technical prowess and the versatility of our Skeleton platform”, says Daniel Milesson, R&D Director, Crunchfish Gesture Interaction.

Crunchfish Deeply intuitive gestures – A Finwire interview

2022-02-02|

The Finwire interview of Crunchfish Gesture Interaction CEO Joakim Nydemark is on the topic Deeply intuitive gestures.

”I am very excited about our gesture control platform based on Crunchfish XR Skeleton and how well that scales into different use cases and contexts. The EU regulations related to Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) in vehicles is driving the interest of hand and body tracking in the automotive industry. If you add that hardware for AR glasses will soon enable a form factor that attracts the consumer market, the coming years will look very promising”, says Joakim Nydemark, CEO of Crunchfish Gesture Interaction.

The previously announced XR Skeleton versatility has been well received in the market and with the continued development work during 2021, traction has been gained in the automotive industry e.g. related to the announced Proof-of-Concept project during the fall 2021.

Please register for Crunchfish weekly, open and free Survival of the fittest webinar series held on Fridays at 08.00 CET / 12.30 IST. Crunchfish Gesture Interaction introduction – Deeply intuitive gestures

2022-01-14|

Crunchfish develops AI technology for gesture interaction with exceptional performance, optimized for augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), automotive and the next generation digital interfaces. An introduction to gesture Interaction was the topic of the 2nd session of the Survival of the fittest webinar series on January 14th, 2022.

An introduction to gesture interaction was the topic of the 2nd session in Crunchfish’s Survival of the fittest webinar series. Joakim Nydemark, CEO of Crunchfish Gesture Interaction outlined how it works, what is required and various use cases. By means of a standard camera sensor in AR/VR wearables, automotive, smartphones etc., the gesture software interprets hand and body gestures and then associates them to different commands or movements on a physical or virtual screen. The panel consisted of Joakim Nydemark, Daniel Milesson, R&D Director Crunchfish Gesture Interaction and Joachim Samuelsson, Group CEO of Crunchfish.

”The market for Gesture Interaction is maturing, with the Covid-19 pandemic accelerating the need for touchless interaction. Also, in the automotive industry, new regulatory requirements will drive the Gesture Interaction market. Crunchfish XR Skeleton provides exceptional performance using only a standard RGB camera.””, says Joakim Nydemark, CEO of Crunchfish Gesture Interaction.

Next webinar related to gesture interaction will be on February 11th. Focus will be on Crunchfish XR Skeleton platform which is Crunchfish fifth generation of Gesture Interaction. The very first generation was manifested  by the fun GoCam app from 2014 for taking selfies by gestures. It is still being available for free download on AppStore. Next webinar on January 21st will be on the benefits of Crunchfish Digital Cash. Followed by a webinar on Crunchfish Equity analysis on January 28th. All webinars are held on Fridays at 08.00 CET / 12.30 IST.

Crunchfish announces 12th Gesture Interaction patent

2022-01-12|

Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) are two important market segments for Crunchfish and entering PIN codes or passwords securely is a key problem to solve for providers of wearables and AR/VR platforms. Gesture interaction is the preferred way to enter a PIN code or password. Voice control is not an option and the use of physical buttons, if at all available, is often time consuming.

All wearables need a PIN code or password protection from unauthorized usage. As gestures are visible to people around the user, a smart mechanism protecting the PIN code or password is needed. This innovation solves it by re-arranging the letters and numbers in the virtual display. In that way, the hand movements will be different every time a PIN code or password is entered, which provides the desired protection. The patent covers both locking and unlocking of a device using gesture interaction on a scrambled virtual display.

This is Crunchfish’s 12th innovation in the area of Gesture Interaction and completes the patent portfolio as all 12 unique innovations have now been granted patents.

“This is a key patent for our gesture business that protects locking and un-locking of a wearable device in AR/VR, two of our focus markets”, says Joakim Nydemark, CEO of Crunchfish Gesture Interaction AB.

Crunchfish signs agreement for a Proof-of-Concept project in a new business segment

2021-10-08|

Crunchfish has today signed a development agreement with a customer in Asia Pacific to develop a Proof-of-Concept (POC) with Crunchfish’s latest gesture technology. The project will be implemented during Q4 2021 with the goal of showing the results at a trade fair in the first quarter of 2022.

The customer is based in Asia Pacific and develops solutions for the AI technology industry with customers all over the world. To ensure a good technology fit and a market interest, the parties will work together to develop a POC that enables interaction in a car using hand gestures. Both companies’ technologies will be built together into a joint solution before an event during the first quarter of 2022.

For reasons of confidentiality, it is currently not possible to disclose the company name, but hopefully a successful joint POC project will lead to an official announcement of the collaboration. Revenues for the project are not fixed but estimated at around 53kUSD where Crunchfish will be able to charge for time and materials. A successful project can lead to greater revenue.

“We are very excited about this project since it can open up a new business segment for our gesture interaction technology. The global AI technology industry is changing rapidly, which requires new innovative solutions. It is therefore an exciting business to get involved in”, says Joakim Nydemark, CEO of Crunchfish Gesture Interaction
