Crunchfish partner with Change2 for virtual try-ons in augmented reality

2023-03-09|

Crunchfish have signed an agreement with Change2 in Italy for a Proof-of-Concept project to enable virtual try-ons. The target is to develop a joint offering to enable virtual try-ons. Crunchfish’s XR Skeleton product will be integrated in Change2’s 3D environment to enable any mobile device with powerful object visualizations for an amazing virtual try-on and shopping experience.

Crunchfish are a global provider of hand tracking technology and Change2 offer software and services to famous luxury brands. Crunchfish’s technology for hand detection and tracking in combination with Change2’s customer network and ability to develop 3D web solutions is a perfect fit to enable virtual try-ons of eg. watches, bracelets and rings. The companies now enter a partnership to develop a joint solution targeting this great market.

In short, a virtual try-on is the way a customer can try on a product through mobile or other devices equipped with a camera. Thanks to an underlying AR technology, future customers can see themselves in a beloved product on the screen of their smartphone. It is a huge market that is growing rapidly.

Crunchfish XR Skeleton provides hand tracking capabilities to eg. AR and mobile devices by analyzing the image stream from the camera sensor(s) and then tracking 21 points on each hand with high precision. These points or coordinates are then used to place virtual objects on hand, wrist, fingers etc.

Change2 is working with famous luxury fashion brands to enable virtual try-on solutions and experiences in augmented reality. The company’s expertise in 3D modeling and web solutions as well as UX design make Change2 a very capable player in this industry.

We are thrilled to start this collaboration with Crunchfish, as we strongly believe that VTO solutions are getting more and more important for luxury fashion brands. This strong partnership could possibly create the best in class virtual try-on solutions for the luxury brands, says Lorenzo Corazza & Alberto Malavasi, Founders at Change2.

“I am very excited about this project and delighted to contribute to Change2’s virtual try-on offering by providing our XR Skeleton solution. Change2’s technical expertise and insights in the industry combined with Crunchfish’s technology can open many joint opportunities in an exciting business segment”, says Joakim Nydemark, CEO at Crunchfish Gesture Interaction.

Crunchfish and SpectreXR showcase the ultimate e-shopping experience with AR

2023-02-08|

Crunchfish’s XR Skeleton has successfully been integrated into SpectreXR’s OctoXR product to enable gesture interaction with virtual objects. SpectreXR has done a great job to develop a demo application that in a brilliant way showcase the ultimate e-shopping experience with a standard mobile device by using XR Skeleton and OctoXR.

Crunchfish and SpectreXR have since earlier a partnership that targets to offer customers a powerful object interaction solution in AR/VR. The companies can now proudly present a demo app targeting e-shopping that show an immersive shopping experience in Augmented Reality.

One of the most exciting things about using hands for interaction in AR is that it enables the users to interact with the virtual world like in real life. The core of it is the ability to grab and manipulate objects, which require both a robust hand tracking technology as well as interaction components that enable all the dynamics and physics behind real objects. The demo app shows how a sneaker shoe can be picked up and turned around to get a closer look before a purchase.

An integrated solution using Crunchfish and SpectreXR software is now available and reduces the time to develop interactive AR/VR apps for e-shopping, live video shopping, Virtual-Try-Ons etc.

“With OctoXR we can show the performance and possibilities with Crunchfish’s hand tracking technology and enable new exciting usecases to our customers”, says Joakim Nydemark, CEO of Crunchfish Gesture Interaction

Crunchfish partner with SpectreXR for interaction with virtual objects

2022-12-15|

Crunchfish and SpectreXR have signed evaluation agreements for each other’s software products to enable a joint offering to the AR/VR market. Crunchfish’s XR Skeleton products integrated with OctoXR from SpectreXR makes it is possible to enable any AR/VR device with a powerful object interaction solution in a very short time.

Crunchfish’s XR Skeleton has successfully been integrated into SpectreXR’s OctoXR product to showcase gesture interaction with virtual objects. One of the most exciting things about using hands in AR/VR is enabling users to interact with the virtual world like in real life. The core of this is the ability to grab and manipulate objects, which require both a robust hand tracking technology as well as interaction components that enable all the dynamics and physics behind virtual objects. A joint solution by Crunchfish and SpectreXR will significantly reduce the time to develop interactive AR/VR software systems and apps.

Crunchfish XR Skeleton provides hand tracking capabilities to AR/VR devices by analysing the image stream from the camera sensor(s) and then tracking 21 points on each hand with high precision. These 42 coordinates are then used to enable interaction with virtual objects.

It is very complex to design and develop virtual objects in AR/VR. The objects appear in three dimensions and also need to look and feel as realistic as in real life, which requires advanced software and very specific skills.

SpectreXR are specialists in developing and creating new and innovative solutions across multiple platforms using XR technologies. The flagship product OctoXR, includes a library of interaction components that are modular, composable and scalable, that can be integrated into existing architectures or run standalone.

“One of our most important long-term goals has always been to bring OctoXR into AR technology and when Crunchfish introduced their XR Skeleton we knew that this integration is a big step towards that. Bringing hand interactions into AR is a significant milestone and we are happy that it will add extra value to our present and future users and projects”, says Ivan Rajkovic, CEO at SpectreXR.

“I was very impressed by how fast XR Skeleton could be integrated into OctoXR and get to a working demo. The combination of Crunchfish’s XR Skeleton and OctoXR enables a powerful solution that may shorten the time to market for many of our customers”, says Joakim Nydemark, CEO at Crunchfish Gesture Interaction.

Crunchfish XR Skeleton 2.0 is ready for release

2022-11-14|

Crunchfish is now ready to release XR Skeleton 2.0 to customers and partners. This is the second generation of the flagship product – XR Skeleton – that target devices with a single camera. In this upgraded version the power consumption decreased due to more efficient use of different processing units, but most importantly support for tracking of two hands simultaneously has been added. Until now, two-hands tracking has only been available in the XR Skeleton Stereo product.

Crunchfish XR Skeleton 2.0 is ready. This software is an upgraded version of the XR Skeleton 1.1 and target use cases in primarily AR/VR, but the algorithms are also applicable in the automotive industry. With more wide-angle camera sensors available on the market, single sensor solutions are becoming more common. The benefits are lower cost, less power consumption and that one sensor is enough to cover a large space in front of the user that enables a wider interaction space for hand tracking. Interaction with two hands becomes natural.

Compared with having two camera sensors as in the stereo camera set-up, the accuracy when moving the hands in the depth direction is less precise with a single camera. Still, it is possible to enable a great user experience in many use cases also with a single camera. Especially with a wide-angle sensor since both hands can fit in the field of view of the camera when interacting with the device.

In the car environment, often just one sensor is used to track driver and passenger in the front seat. Tracking of two hands and sometimes even four hands is required which both are supported by the latest algorithms. In AR/VR and especially smart glasses, there is sometimes only one camera sensor between the lenses to save cost. Still, support for interaction with two hands is required.

“After specific requests from many customers regarding support of two hands in the single camera hardware environment, we decided to extend our solution with that functionality. With a modified neural network and programming, I am now proud to be able to deliver this upgraded XR Skeleton product that is faster, consumes less power and support tracking of two hands”, says Jens-Henrik Lindskov, R&D Director at Crunchfish Gesture Interaction.
