Malmö, 21 August – Hi! My name is Sarah, I am originally trained as a contemporary dancer and choreographer. My performance work often looks at self-representation and how we use technology to see ourselves from an outside eye. In my latest dance performance “Communicating with all of our parts” I used gesture technology to document the creation and development, an experience that resulted is a vlog series I would like to share with you.
I used my ten-day choreographic residency at Danscentrum Syd, Malmö, to explore some ideas about robots. I was inspired by the definition of robot as a “machine that is programmable by a computer”. I began to think about how many of my own physical actions are programmed by a computer. This led me to question the categorical differences between humans and robots.
I used the GoCam app from Crunchfish both to document my work for others by making vlogs, but also as a choreographic tool for myself. I often work alone and create solo performances. This means that in order to be able to get some idea of what the performance looks like from an outside eye I film myself and then watch it back afterwards. Being able to interact with my camera device from a distance without having to leave the space I was dancing in was very useful for me.
I hope you follow my journey as I create my dance performance “Communicating with all of our parts”. For more information about me,

Malmö, 17 June – The Swedish gesture recognition company Crunchfish has together with Alexander Badju and David Lundberg, two Master’s thesis students from Lund University, developed ‘the Touchless Storefront’, effectively erasing the line between online shopping and the in-store retail experience.
As we are experiencing a big transformation in the retail sector, brands need to surprise their audience with delight through unconventional means.
The two initial concepts are Retail Experience and the Real Estate Match. In Retail Experience the consumer swipes to browse through inspirational images of clothing whereas the Real Estate Match is an interactive Home Matcher Quiz that prompts the house-buyer to select images that best represents their taste with specific gestures like a push, swipe or grab.
With the Touchless Storefront we have created an interactive screen meant to mimic the online convenience to browse deals, read reviews and compare products. The magic feel of gesture recognition technology creates both functional and emotional benefits to the consumer that brands crave for customer loyalty.
Crunchfish together with Alexander Badju and David Lundberg developed the Touchless Storefront with the belief that digitalization is about forming a new relationship with the customer, a much closer connection that requires brands to re-examine how their strengths relate to their customers wants, not only their needs.
Perhaps retail should begin their digital transformation with the question not whether they should speak to customers with “a hey, hi or hello?” but rather with “smile, high five, or wave?”. The commercial landscape of Sweden seems to think so.
The Touchless Storefront was a collaboration between Alexander Badju and David Lundberg from Lund University and Crunchfish AB to develop a gesture driven shopping experience. Contact us to find out more about the project.
