2022-01-07|

Crunchfish Digital Cash is the future of payments on any payment form factor – mobiles, web, cards and wearables, regardless of payment rail – Instant, EMV, CBDC and crypto. Crunchfish Digital Cash platform was the topic of the grand premiere of the Survival of the fittest webinar series on January 7th, 2022.

The recently announced Digital Cash architecture and Digital Cash online has been very well received in the market, especially by banks and instant payment services. Digital Cash online as well as the patented Digital Cash Wallets in mobile apps is already for shipment. A patent-pending application allows the interaction between a mobile app and non-mobile devices to occur completely offline. The third layer of Digital Cash on non-mobile devices will be a development focus during 2022.

”Crunchfish Digital Cash is the future of payments. We are very happy with the positive feedback we have received so far by Banks and Payment Services. Crunchfish has an ambition to take a leadership position within payments globally”, says Joachim Samuelsson, CEO of Crunchfish.

Crunchfish group CEO Joachim Samuelsson hosted the webinar premiere and was joined by Gagan Kochar, Senior Business Developer India and Magnus Lageson, CPO of Crunchfish Digital Cash in a panel discussion with the audience. Next webinar on January 14th, 2022 at 08.00 CET / 12.30 IST provides an introduction to Crunchfish Gesture Interaction, the other business area of Crunchfish. Digital Cash Wallets architecture – interview with Crunchfish CEO Joachim Samuelsson

2021-12-21|

In the interview, arranged by Västra Hamnen Corporate Finance, CEO Joachim Samuelsson gives market insights into how popular payment services such as Swish in Sweden and UPI in India are both very vulnerable as all backend payment servers as well as the payer’s internet connection must be up and running. Crunchfish’s Digital Cash Wallet online relaxes these conditions by providing payment availability despite service disruption or server congestion, as well as load balancing of the Core Banking System. The Digital Cash Wallets online and in mobile apps are already ready for shipment. Further, CEO Joachim Samuelsson also updates the market on the business model, go-to-market strategy and the IP portfolio within digital payments.

Crunchfish announces Digital Cash Wallets’ architecture

2021-12-20|

Crunchfish Digital Cash AB (“Crunchfish”) is announcing a patent-pending architecture of Digital Cash Wallets. In addition to Crunchfish’s original Digital Cash Wallet offline, that is integrated in a mobile app, an architecture spanning from Core Banking Systems to Digital Cash Wallets either online or offline, in mobile apps or on non-mobile devices is presented. This provides the foundation of Crunchfish’s ambition to take a global leadership position within digital payments. The Digital Cash Wallets online and in mobile apps are already ready for shipment.

Immensely popular payment services such as Swish in Sweden and UPI in India are both very vulnerable as all backend payment servers as well as the payer’s internet connection must be up and running. This Digital Cash Wallet online relaxes these conditions by providing payment availability despite service disruption or server congestion, as well as load balancing of the Core Banking System. Other features such as interoperability, privacy, inclusiveness, and flexibility in respect to form factor, mobile-OS and proximity interaction are offered as well by Digital Cash Wallets to payment services.

The recently announced Digital Cash Wallet online has been very well received in the market, especially by banks and instant payment services experiencing the above challenges. We are happy to announce that it is already ready for shipment as an integrated wallet that architecturally fits between the Core Banking System and the patented Digital Cash Wallets in mobile apps.

”This architecture of Digital Cash Wallets provides the very foundation of Crunchfish’s ambition to take a global leadership position within digital payments”,says Joachim Samuelsson, CEO of Crunchfish.

We are also announcing an additional layer of wearables and smart cards to the architecture of Digital Cash Wallets. Top-up and payment in stores using these Digital Cash Wallets are done by tapping a mobile device to interact with a Digital Cash Wallet in a mobile app. A patent-pending application allows this interaction to occur completely offline. The development of Digital Cash Wallets in non-mobile devices will commence in 2022.
Crunchfish Digital Cash Wallets are all integrated in a modular architecture. An account reservation in the Core Banking System provides a balance in the Digital Cash Wallet online, which in turn may be distributed to one or many Digital Cash Wallets in mobile apps. This balance may be further distributed to one or many Digital Cash Wallets in non-mobile device. This provides the global payments market with a complete architecture that works online as well as offline, on all kinds of bearer devices, and on all kinds of payment schemes such as Instant, CBDC, Card as well as Crypto.

Crunchfish announces Digital Cash patent

2021-12-02|

Crunchfish Digital Cash AB (“Crunchfish”) has received a Notice of Allowance from the Swedish Patent Office (PRV) that a patent regarding interoperable offline payments will be granted. The patent protects internationally interoperable offline payments using a global root certificate. The patent application number is SE-2150228-1 and is valid until March 2041. An international PCT-application will be filed before March 2022.

The scope of the patent is internationally interoperable offline payments which may be verified offline by using a global root certificate of the Digital Cash service. The patent covers also cross-border payments by managing exchange rates offline. The patent has priority from a provisional patent application filed in February 2021.

Crunchfish Digital Cash is an extremely flexible complement to all types of payment schemes. It is based on separating the payment process in three distinct steps.

  1. Reserve funds on a bank account and represent it as a Digital Cash balance in a Digital Cash Wallet,
  2. Pay using the Digital Cash Wallet by debiting the Digital Cash balance and storing the Digital Cash transaction, the payee verifies and stores also the transaction,
  3. Settle the Digital Cash transaction to transfer money from the payer’s bank account with the reserved funds to the payee’s bank account.

A Digital Cash Wallet may be used to pay offline if it is implemented as a secure trusted application within a mobile app. Similarly, it is possible for the payee to verify the Digital Cash payment offline if it has pre-installed a Digital Cash Verifier with a global root certificate of the Digital Cash service, making it is possible to trust the received offline payment.

Crunchfish has several additional patent pending applications within the area of Digital Cash. The latest filed patent application is related to this patent as it protects paying with or verifying Digital Cash transactions using the global root certificate of the Digital Cash service, but online instead.

”This is a key patent for offline payments using Digital Cash. Payment services today are services online and this innovation enables them to become interoperable, even internationally, with offline payments. The grant increases the chances that recently filed patent application implementing Digital Cash online will also be granted, as it is based on the same core principle”, says Joachim Samuelsson, CEO of Crunchfish.
